Cristiano Ronaldo Set For Two-Match Ban After Saudi Super Cup Red Card, Record-Breaking Target In Jeopardy
After his frustrations in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final clash against Al Hilal boiled over, Cristiano Ronaldo elbowed Ali Al-Bulauhi and was sent off. Now, he will have to miss Al Nassr’s next two matches, which means he may not play enough games to break Abdelrazzak Hamdallah’s record of the most goals scored in a Saudi Pro League season.
In the 2018/19 season, Abdelrazzak Hamdallah scored 34 goals in the Saudi Pro League, setting the league record for most goals scored in a single season. Currently, Cristiano Ronaldo has 29 league goals to his name, five away from matching the record and six from breaking it.
With seven matches to the end of the season, Cristiano needs all the chances he can get to add to his tally and break the record. However, his two-match ban means he will only have five games to break the record. With Al Nassr out of the title race and having squandered the chance to fight for silverware in two other competitions, Cristiano having a record-breaking season may be the only cap in their feather this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently showed what he can do with two hatricks 72 hours apart. Five matches where he needs to average a goal a game to break the record may be a tough ask for an ordinary player, but Cristiano is no ordinary player.
