Ronaldo’s Brace Against Al Khaleej is a Statement of Intent Ahead of the Final Against Al Hilal
After Cristiano Ronaldo drew a blank in the clash away to Al Khaleej in the Saudi Pro League after returning from suspension, he answered his critics emphatically with a brilliant performance and a brace in the King’s Cup of Champions semi-final clash against the same opponents.
Al Nassr booked their place in the King’s Cup of Champions final with a comfortable 3-1 triumph over Al Khaleej.
Ronaldo’s side was defeated at this stage last season, but they have made it to the final this year as they look to bolster their chances of claiming silverware this season.
Ronaldo struck early to give Al Nassr the lead as Al Khaleej was caught trying to play out from the back. Al Nassr’s high press allowed Ronaldo to win the ball in the final third and unleash a left-footed shot from outside the box into the empty net, with the goalkeeper caught out of position.
As he converted from the spot, Sadio Mane doubled Al Nassr’s lead shortly before halftime. Ronaldo doubled his tally in the 57th minute to hand the hosts a commanding lead. Al Khaleej pulled one back in the 82nd minute, but Al Nassr was comfortable and cruising.
Al Nassr will be pleased with the performance as their attack returns to its clinical best. Cristiano Ronaldo returned to goal-scoring form, which is crucial for Al Nassr as they look to finish the Saudi Pro League strongly and build momentum ahead of facing Al Hilal in the King’s Cup of Champions final on May 31, 2024.
