Al Hilal Decorate Winning Streak With Saudi Super Cup Trophy in Saudi Classico Win Against Al Ittihad
Thursday night presented Al Hilal’s first opportunity to lift silverware, and they did not make any mistakes, winning 4-1 against Al Ittihad in the Saudi Super Cup final. The match was played in front of 27,250 fans at the Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Al Hilal’s Malcom, who has stepped up in the absence of top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, opened the scoring in the 5th minute. The Brazilian forward latched onto the ball near the halfway line, played some passes with Salem Al Dawsari, and then slotted it home to make it 1-0.
The Al Ittihad response was swift, with Abdelrazzak Hamdallah winning a penalty. However, the Morrocan international failed to equalize with Yassine Bono, who was on hand to deny him. He, however, got to the loose ball and scored to make it 1-1. Salem Al Dawsari finished a well-worked move to make it 2-1 in the 44th minute.
In the second half, Hamdallah scored in the 60th minute but was ruled offside. It would take until the 89th minute for Malcom to once again score to cement Al Hilal’s victory. Later, substitute Nasser Al Dawsari scored to make it 4-1. Al Hilal has now won the Saudi Super Cup four times, with their nearest competition, Al Nassr, winning it twice.
