Roma Defender Roger Ibanez Joins Saudi Exodus with Al-Ahli Move
In a substantial football transfer, Brazilian defender Roger Ibanez has officially become a member of Al Ahli, leaving AS Roma. The Saudi Pro League team has confirmed the four-year contract agreement.
The 26-year-old’s move from AS Roma, where he had been since his permanent transfer from Atlanta in 2021, marks a significant addition to Al Ahli’s roster.
During the previous season, Ibanez showcased his prowess on the field, contributing three goals in 48 matches for Jose Mourinho’s team as they made it to the Europa League final, where they lost to Sevilla on penalties.
Al-Ahli warmly welcomed Ibanez, expressing their enthusiasm for his arrival with a welcome video on social media.
Roger Ibanez’s arrival aligns with Al Ahli’s continuous effort to bolster their squad. The club’s resurgence in the Pro League after a season in the second division has been marked by notable signings like Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, Alain Saint-Maximin, and Franck Kessie.
The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) has also made a significant move by announcing the Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project. This initiative involves league champions Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr, and Al-Hilal, further shaping the future of Saudi football.
