Chelsea’s Thiago Silva Snubs Saudi Pro League and ‘Agrees Emotions Reunion with Former Club’
Chelsea Champions League-winning center-back will snub interest from the Saudi Pro League and sign for his boyhood club, Fluminense.
After it was announced that Silva, 39, would be moving on from Chelsea at the end of his contract, having become a cult hero at Stamford Bridge across four years at the club, the expectation was that the Saudi Pro League could be in the running to get his signature.
Silva has shown this season and the last four years at Chelsea that he still has a lot of football in him. He has played at the highest level and looked comfortable for someone his age.
In his message to Chelsea fans announcing he would leave at the end of his contract, Silva said, “Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here to only stay for a year and it ended up being four years, not just for me but for my family, too.
“My sons play for Chelsea, so it’s a source of great pride to be a part of the Chelsea family – literally because my sons are here. I hope they can continue their careers here at this victorious club that many players wish to be part of.
“I think in everything I did here over the four years, I always gave my all. But, unfortunately, everything has a start, a middle and an end. That doesn’t mean that this is a definitive end. I hope to leave the door open so that in the near future I can return, albeit in another role here.”
According to Brazilian outlet Globo, Silva has signed a deal with Fluminense that will last until 2026 and will be announced once it is announced.
