Steven Gerrard Wants to Sign David de Gea Although he Admitted he “Hated” the Former Manchester United Goalkeeper

Steven Gerrard Still Wants to Sign De Gea Despite Rivalry

David de Gea, the former Manchester United goalkeeper, has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, who are currently under the tutelage of former Liverpool captain and legend Steven Gerrard.

After 12 years at Old Trafford, De Gea is without a club, having left Manchester United after his deal with the club expired. He was replaced by Andre Onana, who was signed from Inter Milan for £47 million.

The Sun are reporting that De Gea could be the latest high-profile name making a move to the Saudi Pro League, with Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq leading the chase for the Spaniard shot-stopper.

Al-Ettifaq signed some marquee names from Europe in the summer, including Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Moussa Dembele.

Back in 2018, Steven Gerrard spoke to VT Sport and said this about De Gea, “Well, I think the biggest compliment I can pay him is I hate him.

“So do all Liverpool fans. He makes difficult shots look really easy, which is what world-class keepers do. I don’t really go off the stats or the graphs, I go off my eyes. You can look at them and change them and twist them whatever way you want. He probably is the best keeper in the world at this present time.”

Reports indicate that De Gea’s move to the Saudi Pro League might be complicated by his wife’s preference for a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the U.S.
