Al Hilal On A Historic Run With 14 Consecutive Wins, A Saudi Pro League Record
On Monday evening, Al Hilal took full advantage in the first half away to Al Ettifaq to secure a win with two goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Salem Al Dawsari. Hosts Al Ettifaq started the match looking like the more dangerous team but ended up goalless and back to losing ways after a brief hope with their recent win against Al Khaleej.
With this win, Al Hilal now boasts the longest winning run in the Saudi Pro League history with 14 consecutive victories. This would not have been possible without the prowess of goalkeeper Yassine Bono, who expertly stopped a Georginio Wijnaldum strike within ten seconds of starting the game. Early action for the goalkeepers was the order of the day, with Bono’s opposite number, Paulo Victor, stopping a Koulibaly close-range shot in the 15th minute and then a Mitrovic strike less than a minute later.
With Al Ettifaq letting Al Hilal settle and grow into the game, the visitors maintained a stranglehold of the match with high-quality chances created but not converted. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic finally broke the deadlock in the 39th minute with a header to make it 9 league goals for the season. An Aleksandar Mitrovic deft flick in the first half’s extra time saw the score at 2-0.
The second half was uneventful though the hosts made efforts to come back into the game with no success. With the win, Al Hilal is comfortably seven points clear at the top of the table with 59 points and an impressive +54 goal difference.
