Saudi Pro League Targets Éder Militão After Vinicius Junior Cold Shoulder

Éder Militão Poses With a Real Madrid Jersey Commemorating His Contract Extension to June 2028

With Vinicius Junior making it clear to representatives of the Saudi Pro League that he’s not keen on a move, they have moved on to another Real Madrid star. According to reports, Éder Militão has attracted Saudi interest, with the talks still at a very early stage.

The Saudi Pro League has been uncharacteristically silent this summer with speculations citing the lack of funds as the reason. The £1 billion failed pursuit of Vinicius Jr. made it clear that the Saudi Pro League is open to paying huge amounts provided they could get significant value out of the deal. With that deal impossible for now, the SPL’s representatives sent out feelers to Éder Militão, Vinicius’s Real Madrid and Brazil teammates, on whether he’d be open to joining the Saudi Pro League.

The talks are still in their early stages, and a deal for Militão will be challenging to execute. Militão is said to be happy in the Spanish capital and played the full 90 minutes in the UEFA Super Cup contest this week, demonstrating his importance to the team. Last season wasn’t the best of times for the Brazilian defender. A cruciate ligament tear on matchday oen saw him miss most of the season, returning in late March. However, he’s had a decent pre-season and will be looking to kick on in the new season.

Should Militão give the green light to approach Real Madrid, the complications persist. His contract expires in June 2028, and it contains a £427million release clause. Madrid have no pressure to sell, so they will certainly insist on Militão ’s Saudi suitors paying the full amount of the release clause. However, given the new directive to pay reasonably, it is unlikely that a deal will happen unless Real Madrid are willing to come down on their asking price.
