Saudi Pro League Chief Operating Officer Carlo Nohra Says Big-Money Signings are Only the First Step in a Long-Term Strategy
The big-money spending by the Saudi Pro League is just the first step in a long-term plan to elevate the Saudi football brand into a global powerhouse in the broadcasting and quality aspects of the game.
Chief operating officer of the SPL, Carlo Nohra, told CNBC that the strategic approach by Saudi Arabia is “extremely long term,” and that the acquisition of household names was the first step.
Nohra further indicated to CNBC that “While that helps us grow on the pitch, the idea is to grow off the pitch and to commercialize as well, so the strategy takes in every element that we need to focus on to get the Saudi Pro League to where it aspires to be among the top 10 leagues in the world.”
These remarks shed some light on the emergence of the Saudi Pro League as a dominant player in the world of football. It also reveals that the SPL is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
