After a Record Transfer Window, The Saudi Pro League Kicks Off this Weekend
This Friday, the 11th, the Saudi Pro League will start. The competition gained prominence on the world stage after the Sovereign Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) bought the four leading clubs in the country. They are: Al-Ahli; Al-Hilal; Al-Ittihad; and Al-Nassr.
With the high investment, many stars and names known to global football fans decided to leave Europe for Saudi football. Besides, others were already there, the most notable being Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano agreed with his new club, Al Nassr, in December 2022. He highlighted how the Saudi Championship surprised him positively, betting on its transformation into a world power in the coming years.
“The Saudi Championship is very competitive. It’s not like the Premier League, I’m not going to lie, but it’s a league that surprised me positively. In five, six, seven years, if they continue like this, they will be the fourth or fifth-best league in the world’’ – declared Cristiano Ronaldo,
The first match of the 2023/24 Saudi Pro League season will be played between Al-Ahli and Al-Hazm.
