Saudi Pro League Does Not Need The Champions League

In a wide-ranging interview with Sky Sports News chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol, director of Saudi Pro League, laid bare the plans and ambitions of Saudi football and what he makes of the SPL’s disruptive transfer window.

In this interview, Emenalo revealed that the Saudi Pro League does not have ambitions to have its clubs participating in the UEFA Champions League. He indicated that football in Saudi Arabia is already at a high level with passionate fans and that its growth will continue unabated.

Emenalo’s statement puts to bed swirling rumors in recent months regarding the ultimate strategic plan for the Saudi Pro League and the intention of gaining admission into the UEFA Champions League.

It was a statement of intent from the Saudi Pro League director, revealing that the football people in the Middle East nation harbor hopes and expectations that their football league will grow organically over time to be just as competitive as the top leagues in the world.

Although the Saudi Pro League does not wish to be involved in the UEFA Champions League, they soon have designs to compete against the likes of the English Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1.
