From The Ground Up: Saudi Arabia Offering At Least €3,000 To Players To Join The Third Division
Saudi Arabia continues to shake the status quo of the football world, and this time, it’s not about signing top talents in their prime. In a move intended to grow the lower leagues and create a thriving network of feeder clubs, Saudi Arabia is now recruiting players for the 3rd division.
Players interested in the Saudi Pro League lower leagues will enjoy contracts of €3,000 to €4,000 plus a house. The offers were posted on the FutbolJobs website and included offers to join Saudi Women’s teams. The site is also advertising a call for female players for the first and second divisions. However, the applicants must have participated in the last Women’s World Cup for their respective countries.
The salary for the women’s first division is quoted to be €5,000 with other additional perks. This is interesting news and is bound to impact the future of Saudi football.
Currently, the top Saudi Pro League clubs have no feeder system to provide them with locally developed talent. They’ve had to resort to making big money signings from top European clubs. However, long-term sustainability will require the entire system to develop to enable talent feeding from the lower levels.
