Amidst Players Like Jordan Henderson Pushing For Returns to Europe, Roberto Firminho Has Brushed Off Reports On His Intent To Return
At the start of the January transfer window, the Saudi Pro League was filled with news about players like Karim Benzema, Roberto Firminho, and Jordan Henderson expressing their willingness to return to Europe to friends and agents. Reports cited poor match day attendance, high temperatures, and social life as reasons the top talents want to return to familiar territory.
While Henderson seems to be on his way to Ajax, Firminho and Benzema are set to stay in the Saudi Pro League. Admittedly, Benzema’s situation might be different given his falling out with his manager. Still, there has been no indication that his omission from the Dubai camp will lead to a transfer to Europe.
For Roberto Firminho he’s not keen to return to Europe despite suitors expressing an interest in signing the Brazilian forward. That will be good news for Al Ahli Saudi manager Matthias Jaissle, who hopes Firminho can play a part in chasing the title during the second half of the season.
Firminho hasn’t exactly impressed at Al Ahli, having only scored thrice and assisted twice. After starting the first 10 games of the season, he’s been used as a late second-half substitute to offer fresh legs in attack. He hopes his form improves so he can contribute to the team as they chase Al Hilal and Al Nassr in the hunt for the title.
