Riyad Mahrez’s Wife Adjusting Well To Life In Saudi Arabia Despite Initial Shock
When Riyad Mahrez joined Al Ahli in the summer, his wife, Taylor Ward, was left blindsided by the decision. The Algerian winger called Ward up and informed her of the decision. Ward was worried about staying home alone without friends and family in the Middle East, but Mahrez responded, “It’s part of the game, innit.”
While Taylor still misses her friends and family, she has found life easy in Saudi Arabia. According to her, her initial perception of the country was based on information from other people. Most told her about strict social rules in Saudi Arabia, and she was worried it would be a challenge to acclimatize, given her active social life back in Manchester.
In an interview for the Married to the Game Prime Video docuseries, Taylor notes that she realized that the strict rules she’d been warned about were mostly exaggerations once she arrived in Saudi Arabia. While some are in place, there are steps to relax them to ensure people from other cultures find it easier to settle down and enjoy their social lives in the Kingdom.
On Mahrez’s part, the Champions League-winning and former Manchester City player has adjusted well to the league. He’s currently on eight goals and seven assists for Al-Ahli, who are third in the standings. While they may not challenge for the trophy this season, Al-Ahli has performed well beyond expectations as they return to the top flight. Credit goes to Mahrez and his teammates, and more will be expected from them in the second half of the season.
