Olympique Marseille’s Manager Gennaro Gattuso Confirms Al Hilal Talks To Sign Renan Lodi This January Transfer Window
Al Hilal is in advanced talks to sign Brazilian left-back Renan Lodi from Olympique Marseille for a reported €20M transfer fee. Lodi only joined the Ligue 1 side in July of 2023 for a €13 million fee from Atletico Madrid. He’s started all 14 of their league games this season and only subbed off twice.
With Atletico Madrid reportedly inserting a 20% sell-on clause in the transfer agreement, the negotiations are bound to be complicated, with Marseille keen to profit from their investment. Additionally, he’s only 6 months into his five-year contract, so they are bound to ask much more than the quoted €20M that Al Hilal has presented.
Confirming the negotiations, Olympique Marseille manager Gennaro Gattuso said, “Yes, there are talks ongoing for Lodi. We didn’t want to risk anything, that’s why he didn’t play”. For the team to decide to keep him from playing, they must be confident that the talks will end up in a transfer.
They’ve already lined up a replacement, with the club targeting Hellas Verona’s left-back, Josh Doig. The Doig deal is expected to cost Marseille €5M, and the player has reportedly agreed to a 4-year deal. Given these developments, it seems it will only be a matter of time before Al Hilal gets their man to sign on the dotted line.
