Renan Lodi Complete Al Hilal Move From Olympique Marseille For A Reported €20M Transfer Fee
Al Hilal has finally secured the services of Brazilian Renan Lodi from Ligue 1’s Olympique Marseille. In a deal that will cost over €20m, the Brazilian left-back will join the league leaders on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. The loan agreement contains an obligation to buy for €20m.
Atletico Madrid will also be smiling to the bank after the deal’s completion in the summer. When Lodi joined Olympique Marseille from Atletico Madrid, the Spanish club inserted a 20% sell-on clause that entitles them to 20% of the proceeds from the player’s sale.
Al Hilal confirmed the move on Twitter once the parties signed the contract in Paris, France. Once the deal is permanent, Lodi will be under contract at Al Hilal for three and a half seasons.
Renan Lodi has been a crucial part of the Olympique Marseille team this season, making 14 appearances from the start and only being subbed off twice. He’ll be a welcome addition to a team keen to maintain its momentum and stay ahead of the competition in the title race.
He’ll be competing with Yasser Al-Shahrani for the left-back position at Al Hilal, with the 31-year-old having made 16 appearances in the left-back position for Al Hilal this season. Al-Shahrani has not been consistent this season and has only one assist so far, so Lodi may not find it too difficult to challenge him for the starting berth.
