Jordan Henderson to Replace the Injured Sandro Tonali At Newcastle? Rumors Swirl As PIF-Owned Newcastle Hope to Strengthen Squad
As widely reported in the English press, Jordan Henderson is unhappy at Al Etiifaq. The former Liverpool captain joined the Saudi Pro League side in the summer, and it has not been an enjoyable 6 months. Despite playing under former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, he’s found it challenging to adapt with reasons ranging from the weather to the low stadium attendance numbers.
Reports indicate that Henderson has made it known to those in his circle that should an offer from England come, he’d be open to returning to the English Premier League. Enter Newcastle. With complications due to his wages and possible transfer/loan fees, not many suitors have expressed interest due to his long-term value, given his age.
The PIF-owned Newcastle, however, isn’t short of funds and could be the only English club that could sign Henderson without upsetting their Financial Fair Play limitations. However, such a move isn’t without its complications. Henderson’s boyhood club is Sunderland, Newcastle’s local rivals. With the former Englan captain wishing to play matches in front of packed crowds, signing for a club whose fans are bound to have challenges warming up to him might be a gamble.
An official approach is yet to be made, and whether he will consider it remains to be seen.
