The Saudi Pro League Players On Newcastle’s January Radar to Deal With Their Injury Woes
The Premier League’s bid to shut down the possibility of loans between associated party clubs was narrowly defeated. It needed 14 out of the 20 Premier League clubs to vote in favor of the ban; instead, it got the support of 13 clubs, leading to the defeat of the measure.
Sheffield United, Wolves, Everton, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Manchester City, and Chelsea voted against the ban.
The move was widely viewed as a bid to prevent teams like Newcastle from signing players from PIF clubs following reported links to Al-Hilal’s midfielder Ruben Neves.
Therefore, associated party clubs are free to make deals, including loaning players between each other. This leaves Newcastle free to make deals with Saudi Pro League clubs under PIF, including Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ahli, and Al-Ittihad.
Newcastle will look at the winter transfer window keenly as they look to address their injury problems and plug the gap left by Sandro Tonali serving a 10-month ban.
The Magpies have been linked with moves for 26-year-old Ruben Neves (Al-Hilal), another Al-Hilal player Riyad Mahrez, Sadio Mane from Al-Nassr, Al-Nassr’s Aymeric Laporte, and Al-Hilal’s Aleksandar Mitrovic.
It remains to be seen which of these deals Eddie Howe and Newcastle will be interested in strongly when the January window opens.
