Manchester City Defender Signs with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Team
After five seasons at Manchester City, defender Aymeric Laporte has accepted a proposal from Al-Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo’s team, and is on his way out of the Premier League. Laporte, who found himself lower in the pecking order under Pep Guardiola, is now inching closer to a new chapter in his career with Manchester City, having accepted an undisclosed offer from the Saudi Pro League side.
Despite clubs like Tottenham, Chelsea, and Barcelona showing interest since the transfer window opened, Al-Nassr has found common ground with City to secure the Spanish defender’s services.
To assist Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Nassr made a window of big signings, such as Sadio Mané (Bayern Munich), Marcelo Brozovic (Inter Milan), and Alex Telles (Manchester United).
Laporte joins Al-Ahli’s Riyad Mahrez as the other former Manchester City player who will play in Saudi Arabia’s league this season.
Of Basque origin, Laporte left Athletic Bilbao for Manchester City in January 2018 in a transfer that cost the English 65 million euros. For the Citizens, the defender made 180 appearances scoring 12 goals.
