Is Riyad Mahrez Finally Getting Ready to Burst to Form for Al-Ahli Saudi?
Al-Ahli Saudi fans would be forgiven for having doubts about the impact of Riyad Mahrez. The former Manchester City player came to the Saudi Pro League off the back of a treble-winning season, including a European Champions League title.
He contributed significantly to Man City’s success last season and has established himself as one of the best wingers in the world since moving to the Etihad from Leicester.
However, his muted start to life in the Saudi Pro League has had many questioning his application. However, Mahrez has set about proving his detractors wrong.
The latest example was his involvement in his side’s 2-2 draw at home to Damac. Although he could not get his side over the line, Mahrez was involved in both goals as Al-Ahli raced to a 2-0 lead, providing assists for both goals.
It is also crucial to note that Al-Ahli capitulated and lost the lead after Mahrez had been substituted.
The target for Mahrez will be to improve his leadership role at Al-Ahli and come to the fire as the club looks to stay within touching distance to the top of the table and mount a title challenge. They will need Mahrez at his creativity and scoring best if they are to realize these hopes this season.
