Luis Castro on Leaving Al Nassr: Al Hilal’s Dominance, Team Growth, and Challenges Faced During His Tenure

Luis Castro and Cristiano Ronaldo failed to deliver silverware to Al Nassr fans during their time together, leading to Castro's dismissal

After terminating his contract with Al Nassr, Luis Castro has spoken up about his exit and offered some insights about his time at the Saudi Pro League club. Speaking about the lack of silverware, Castro noted that Al Hilal has been a force to reckon with, making it challenging for the other teams to compete.

With a squad filled with top talent, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Aymeric Laporte, Marcelo Brozovic, and more, the expectations were high for Al Nassr to clean up in the trophy department. However, they fell short, with Al Hilal being the victor in almost all instances.

According to Luis Castro, his team would have won trophies had it not been for the strength of Al Hilal. In an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, he said, “We are left with the feeling that, without Al Hilal, things would have been different, but I am happy because, beyond the titles, we have grown a lot as a club in different areas.” Castro went on to note that he believes Al Nassr made progress even though they fell short of winning trophies.

Speaking on his dismissal, Luis Castro absolved the Al Nassr board of any wrongdoing, noting that while it was hard for him to accept, he didn’t dwell on whether the decision was unfair or not. He also talked about having Cristiano Ronaldo train under him, highlighting his determination in every single training session.

Since Luis Castro’s exit, Al Nassr have gone on a four-match winning run, scoring an average of 2.25 goals per game. They’ve also conceded an average of 0.5 goals per game in this impressive run.
