Saudi Arabian Second-Tier Club Al Qadsiah Sack Robbie Fowler After 4 Months on The Job
Al-Qadsiah, the Saudi Arabian second-tier club, have announced the sacking of Robbie Fowler as their manager after four months on the job for the former Liverpool striker.
In a statement, Al-Qadsiah said: “The club appreciates the coach’s efforts and professionalism during the previous period and wishes him all the success in his professional career.”
The 48-year-old Fowler is a decorated player; he is the 8th-highest goal scorer in Premier League history and boasts 26 caps for England.
The decision is shocking because Al-Qadsiah is trailing leaders in the Saudi First Division League by just one point after eight rounds of fixtures.
Al-Qadsiah are unbeaten in the league so far. They have won six times and had two draws, dropping just four points in the process. The only loss under Fowler came when they were beaten by the side second in the Saudi Pro League, Al-Taawoun, who defeated them in the King Cup.
Robbie Fowler’s last game came in the win (2-1) in the Saudi First Division League last Wednesday.
Al-Qadsiah have appointed former Marseille and Sevilla manager Michel as Fowler’s replacement. Michel also played for Spain and Real Madrid during his playing career.
