“Cristiano Ronaldo Opened The Door” Jose Mourinho Courts Saudi Pro League Clubs Interested in Signing Him
While at AS Roma, Jose Mourinho received offers from the Saudi Pro League but turned them down. At the time, Mourinho expressed his commitment to the Serie A club but did not rule out joining the Saudi Pro League later on.
After he was unceremoniously relieved of his duties, Al Shabab approached him, but the legendary manager opted to take a break in the meantime. During that break, he frequently visited Saudi Arabia, making appearances at sporting events such as Anthony Joshua’s boxing bout with Francis Ngannou and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
With the Portuguese getting comfortable with visiting Saudi Arabia, speculation has been whether he would be open to making a permanent move when he returns to the dugout. Mourinho has revealed that he turned down offers from Al Hilal and Al Ahli while under contract at AS Roma.
Asked about the possibility of coaching in the SPL, Mourinho said. “Cristiano opened the door in terms of believing that it is possible to be there and live there, to enjoy the development of a country that wants to be a different country with football that has a passion but is not developed.” He also made it clear that he is more than open to hearing offers: “If you ask me in the future, experience has told me never to say never.” Now it looks like it’s not a matter of if but when Jose Mourinho graces the Saudi Pro League with his managerial prowess.
