Former England Captain Jordan Henderson Enjoying Life and Football in Saudi Arabia
It’s been five months since Jordan Henderson switched from Merseyside to Al-Ettifaq. Today, he captains the side and wears the coveted number 10 jersey. Henderson plays under former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and has expressed his views on his experiences in Saudi Arabia.
In an interview with the Saudi Pro League official website, Henderson admitted he watched a few SPL games before making the switch. He credits Cristiano Ronaldo for watching the few he tuned in to.
Henderson credits his decision to join Al-Ettifaq to his relationship with manager Steven Gerrard, noting that their relationship is professional and focuses on what each party can improve to achieve better results.
Al-Ettifaq has not had it easy in the SPL, being out of the title race and languishing in 8th despite a talented squad with players like Georgino Wijnaldum and Demarai Gray.
Talking about the people, Henderson said, “When you’re walking around going to the restaurant or the mall, there have been so many friendly people coming up and saying ‘Welcome to Saudi Arabia’ and just having a chat.” Fitting in and being comfortable in Saudi Arabia has certainly not been an issue for the former Liverpool player. The question now is whether he can inspire his teammates to improve their form and move up the table as the season heats up.
