Houssem Aouar Joins Al Ittihad From AS Roma in a Deal Worth €12 Million

Houssem Aouar Poses In An Al Ittihad Jersey After Joining The Jeddah-Based Club

Al Ittihad has officially inked a deal with their first summer signing, Houssem Aouar, from AS Roma. The attacking midfielder will bring his versatile ability to play centrally or wide to Jeddah and hopefully boost the squad as they aim to improve on their dismal title defense in the 2023-24 season.

The Algerian international started his career at Olympique Lyon, where he played for the first team for seven seasons. His best season was the 2019-20 season when he was an integral part of the team that finished runners-up in Ligue 1. In the same season, he made it into the UEFA Champions League team of the season, helping Lyon reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

When his contract expired in the 2022-23 season, he left to join AS Roma in Serie A, where he signed a five-year contract. His spell at AS Roma has been disappointing. He made only 16 appearances in total and struggled to make an impression on his coaches. With Roma facing financial difficulties, a decision was made to drastically reduce the wage bill. Given his disappointing spell, Aouar’s annual wages of €3 million made him a target for sale.

Al Ittihad will hope they can help him regain his form as he joins a team stacked with talent in midfield, with Fabinho and N’Golo Kante partnering him.
