Details on Jordan Henderson’s Ajax Contract Emerge as Player is Set For A Medical This Week
As reported earlier, Jordan Henderson and Al Ettifaq reached an agreement to terminate his contract and join Ajax on a free transfer. Part of what made the contract termination possible was Henderson opting to defer his wages. It is still unclear on the agreement between the club and the player on whether or when he can access the funds.
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, after arriving in England on Wednesday, the former Liverpool captain will travel to Amsterdam where he’s set to undergo a medical and sign a contract. The contract is reported to be for two and a half years until June 2026.
Al Ettifaq will need to move fast in the winter window to get a replacement for their captain as well as reinforcements in other areas, especially in the attacking positions where they’ve struggled to create and convert chances.
Manager Steven Gerrard is on borrowed time as he struggles to demonstrate his worth to the club. Given his high-profile nature, it was expected that he would attract top talent and build a winning team. Henderson’s exit is a stark reminder of how Gerrard’s influence has shown little results and the club’s hierarchy will no doubt be considering their options if results continue on the current trend.
