Al Ettifaq Secures Verbal Agreement with PSG for Netherlands Forward, Gini Wijnaldum
According to reputable reports, Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq has reached an agreement for the transfer of Gini Wijnaldum from PSG. The deal is expected to be approximately €9M. The Netherlands forward has been out of favor and training away from the first team since his return from loan at AS Roma.
Wijnaldum was in the Liverpool team that lifted the 2019 Champions League. He will be the 5th member of that lineup to join the Saudi Pro League. Other players from that lineup include Sadio Mane, Roberto Firminho, Fabinho, and Jordan Henderson.
On the touchline, Wijnaldum will have a familiar face in former teammate Steven Gerrard. The former Reds captain has raided his former club to build a team to compete for honors in the Saudi Pro League.
PSG will be excited to close this deal given that they’ll make a profit of €3M after paying Liverpool €6M for his services two years ago. Gini requested his contract be terminated after the club communicated that he had no future in the French capital. The club denied his request and will gladly close the chapter and move on with the new season.
While his career at PSG was lackluster, the Dutch forward managed 237 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 22 goals and 16 assists. A new chapter with familiar faces around him may be the career kickstart he desires.
