Moving On Quickly: Steven Gerrard Targets Cristiano Ronaldo’s Teammate, Seko Fofana To Replace Jordan Henderson
Having lost Jordan Henderson to Ajax, Steven Gerrard is keen to add fresh blood to his squad and fill the gap left by the former Liverpool captain. Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate at Al Nassr, Seko Fofana, seems to be Gerrard’s choice.
Currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Ivory Coast, the former Lens player has managed a goal in the first two matches. 28-year-old Seko Fofana plays as a central midfielder. He excels in short passes and dribbling to retain possession. He also has an eye for goal and tends to attempt long shots.
Seko Fofana hasn’t exactly lit up the Saudi Pro League with his performances. In his last Ligue 1 season, he managed seven goals and five assists in 35 appearances. This season, he’s only started nine games at Al Nassr and come off the bench in five more matches. He’s only managed a single assist during that time.
Steven Gerrard, a central midfielder himself during his playing years, will hope to get the Ivorian on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. He’ll hope that Fofana can rediscover his Lens form and offer some creativity that is much needed if Al Ettifaq is going to have a better second half of the season compared to the first half.
