Cristiano Ronaldo Fails To Score on Historic Appearance in Portugal’s Win Over the Czech Republic
Cristiano Ronaldo continues to break records, and in Portugal’s Euro 2024 group-stage clash against the Czech Republic, he became the first player to play in six European Championships. Despite being on the winning side, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner failed to score to mark the historic occasion.
Despite Portugal’s dominance in possession, Ronaldo’s first-half performance was marked by a lack of positional discipline. His teammates’ efforts to find him were in vain as he struggled to provide an outlet. A defense-splitting pass from Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes presented Cristiano with a one-on-one opportunity, but he failed to capitalize. Two other attempts were either saved or off-target.
Ronaldo earned his spot in the team by being the top scorer during the Euro 2024 qualifiers, netting 10 goals. He almost turned creator with a header that Diogo Jota put in the net, but it was ruled out for offside.
It was left up to the new generation to secure the three points, with Francisco Conceição scoring in stoppage time to end the match 2-1 in favor of Portugal. Ronaldo will have plenty of chances to get his scoring boots on and demonstrate that the Saudi Pro League is competitive enough to ensure he remains at a high-performance level.
