“They Say I’m Finished, That I’m Only Here for the Money… but I Still Feel the Passion” Cristiano Ronaldo Hits Out at Critics in Netflix Documentary
In a new documentary on Netflix named Saudi Pro League: Kickoff, Cristiano Ronaldo features prominently in the first episode. The Portuguese national talks about criticisms about him being finished and only joining the Saudi Pro League for money.
Cristiano, 39, says, “They say I’m finished, that I’m only here for the money… but I still feel the passion. They don’t believe it, but I’m here to win.” He then proceeded to talk about how his passion for playing and winning is still the key to his motivation.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is far from finished. In the 2023-24 season, he scored 35 league goals, setting the all-time goalscoring record in a single season. During the same period, he scored 22 goals for the Portuguese national team.
Ronaldo’s decision to join Al Nassr saw other top players make the switch, and this has helped improve the SPL’s competitiveness. To illustrate how competitive the SPL is, Ronaldo is yet to win any silverware at Al Nassr.
Cristiano is showing no signs of slowing down. After reaching the milestone of 900 career goals, he expressed a desire to hit 1000 goals before his retirement. With 913 career goals so far, it is uncertain whether he’ll manage to hit the 1000 goal. However, what is undeniable is his impact on the Saudi Pro League in how he managed to catalyze its development.
