Al-Nassr succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Hilal in the Riyadh Season Cup on Thursday, with Cristiano Ronaldo particularly showing his frustration with the result and the opposition fans taunting him with Lionel Messi Chants.
Al-Nassr struggled against a well-organized and aggressive Al-Hilal side. Cristiano Ronaldo struggled in this match and was largely anonymous as the opposition subdued him and his teammates, as they ran out of ideas in the final third.
Enjoying themselves, Al-Hilal fans sought to compound the misery for the Portuguese legend with Messi chants. The chants reverberated inside the arena in the final stages of the clash.
Clearly frustrated, Ronaldo indulged the fans and responded by asking for more chants as he showed his frustration with both the match’s direction, his inability to impact on Al-Nassr’s forward play, and the fans’ chants aimed specifically at him.
Al-Hilal fans have done this before. In 2023, Ronaldo made an indecent gesture toward Al-Hilal fans after they were persistent with Messi chants in a match that Al-Nassr lost 2-0.
Ronaldo will hope that his Al-Nassr side will improve on this performance as they look to pursue Al-Hilal for the Saudi Pro League title this season.
