Roma’s Chris Smalling Keen on Saudi Pro League As An Option in the Winter Transfer Window
Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Roma could be open to offers for their defender Chris Smalling in the January transfer window. The player is also willing to call time on his adventure in the Italian Serie A and explore the option of moving to the Middle East.
Smalling moved to Roma from Manchester United in 2019 and has grown into one of the important players for the Giallorossi. On their way to winning the Europa Conference League, he was a mainstay in the side in 2022 and signed a two-year extension until 2025 last summer.
However, injury has disrupted Smalling’s involvement with Roma this season, with tendonitis in his knee sidelining him for the past three months, leading to him losing his place.
His appearances have been limited to just three this season, and has not featured for Jose Mourinho’s men since the 2-1 defeat against AC Milan on September 1.
These factors mean that Smalling is increasingly reconsidering his future at Roma. The possibility of an offer from the Saudi Pro League will give him something to consider. Chances are that a move to the Middle East could be welcome at this point in Chris Smalling’s career.
