Lukaku Out? Chelsea Eyes Saudi Bid for Striker
English Premier League’s Chelsea FC are hoping to cash in on Romelu Lukaku in the summer, hoping that a Saudi Pro League side makes a play for the Belgian striker. Currently on loan at AS Roma, Lukaku is almost certain to never play for Chelsea, with relationships broken down and seemingly beyond repair.
After an interview where he indicated that joining Chelsea was only because there were no better offers from his club at the time (Inter Milan) and other suitors, Chelsea decided to sign replacements in his position and sent him out on loan.
At AS Roma, the Belgian forward has scored 18 goals so far this season (10 in Serie A, 7 in the Europa League and 1 in Coppa Italia). With a career total of 222 goals and the honor of being Belgium’s all-time top scorer, Lukaku would be a welcome addition to the Saudi Pro League.
The striker has also expressed his admiration for the Saudi project, noting, “In the next two years, I see this league becoming one of the best in the world, if not the best. The clubs make a lot of efforts to bring the big players here. As a result, the teams and the footballing qualities are improving significantly.”
With the conditions well aligned, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before a Saudi Pro League side in need of attacking firepower approaches Chelsea for the striker.
