Brilliant Benzema Could not Prevent Al-Ittihad From Dropping Two Points in 2-2 Draw Against Al-Hazm
A virtuoso display from Frenchman Karim Benzema for Saudi Pro League defending champions Al-Ittihad saw him score a goal and bag an assist.
However, he had just a point to show for his exploits as Al-Ittihad fell to a second consecutive draw in the league and a fourth match without a win.
Benzema notched a goal in the 26th minute, giving the hosts a deserved lead after good work from fellow summer arrival N’Golo Kante. However, Al-Hazm leveled the scoreline in the 63rd minute via a fine strike by Mohammed Al-Thani.
The former Real Madrid striker then turned provider when he set up Hassan Kadesh to score and make it 2-1 with just nine minutes left on the clock. This was thought to be a winner for Al-Ittihad.
However, Al-Hazm still had something to say about the match; Faiz Selemani struck in the 86th minute to undo all of Benzema’s good work and ensure the points were shared.
Al-Ittihad remains 5th on the Saudi Pro League table after 11 matches; they are five points adrift of the leaders, Al-Hilal. Up next for Benzema and Al-Ittihad is King Cup of Champions action when they face Al Feiha on Tuesday.
