Allan Saint-Maximin Leaves Al Ahli on Loan to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe
After joining Al Ahli from Newcastle a year ago, Allan Saint-Maximin is back in Europe with Fenerbahçe. The French winger will join Jose Mourinho’s men on loan, with the deal having no option to buy.
The 27-year-old winger played 31 games for Al Ahli, scoring four goals and chipping in with ten assists. His flair and unpredictability have been instrumental in creating magical moments, which is why Al Ahli signed him from Newcastle.
Given that his output was decent at Al Ahli, it is unlikely that the pressure to make a move came from the club. Instead, reports from Saint-Maximin’s camp indicate that he pushed for a move back to Europe to play in a more competitive league. Fenerbahçe finished second in the domestic league, leading to a change in management that saw the arrival of legendary manager Jose Mourinho. They are also in this upcoming UEFA Champions League.
With the Turkish side opting not to insert a buy option in the deal, Saint-Maximin will be back at Al Ahli at the end of the season to finish the remaining year of his deal. For now, Al Ahli have to find a replacement to allow them to remain competitive in the Saudi Pro League.
