Newcastle and Al Shabab Reportedly Reach Agreement For The Transfer of Miguel Almiron
Faced with the realities of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play and the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, PIF-owned Newcastle have had to contend that they need to sell some players to generate funds to strengthen in other areas.
With Ever Banega returning to his homeland of Argentina, Al Shabab have found themselves without a talisman. According to TalkSport’s Ben Jacobs, the Saudi Pro League side has reached a provisional agreement with Newcastle for the transfer of the Paraguayan international.
The forward wrote himself into the Magpie’s history books when he scored Newcastle’s first Champions League goal in 20 years in a 4-1 win against PSG earlier this season. Having joined from MLS’s Atlanta United in 2019 for a reported €25M, Almiron has made 165 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 23 goals in that time. Should the deal go through, Atlanta United will be entitled to 20-25% of the proceeds due to a sell-on clause that was part of his transfer from the MLS to the English Premier League.
The deal between Al Shabab and Newcastle is far from over, and the Saudi Pro League side has yet to open talks for personal terms with the player. However, reports have indicated that the forward is open to making the move, so it might just be a matter of time.
