Cristiano Ronaldo’s Title Hopes are Hanging by A Thread After His Side’s Loss to Leaders Al-Hilal

Al-Nassr Losses To Al-Hilal, Ends Streak, Dents Title Hopes

The gap at the top of the Saudi Pro League expanded to seven points following Al-Hilal’s 3-0 win over Al-Nassr last Friday. The loss also deemed Cristiano Ronaldo’s hopes to win the title in Saudi Arabia as his side now trails the leaders by 7 points.

Billed as the Saudi Classico, the clash between Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr was an early title decider, as the two most in-form teams in the SPL went head-to-head. Most observers, neutrals, and the two sets of the fans saw this match as important to their respective title hopes, and at the very least a must-not-lose.

Cristiano Ronaldo cut a frustrated figure in the clash as he could not inspire his side to overcome their Riyadh neighbors and cut their lead down to one point. Instead, Ronaldo watched as his side were convincingly beaten 3-0, with a late Alexandar Mitrovic brace sealing an exciting win.

The league is only around halfway through, with 15 rounds of fixtures played. However, the story of the first half of the season has been dominated by the brilliance of Al-Hilal, who have maintained their unceasing title charge, even without the injured Neymar.

Cristiano Ronaldo hopes his side will embark on another winning ruin to reign Al-Hilal in the second half of the season.

Having competed with Manchester United and Real Madrid title challenges, Ronaldo will know more than anyone that no titles are won in December.
