Al Ittihad in Advanced Negotiations to Sign Real Madrid Captain Nacho on a Free Transfer
Al Ittihad are in advanced talks to secure the signature of Real Madrid captain, Nacho. The 34-year-old will join as a free agent should he opt against the contract extension that Madrid offered.
Nacho joined Real Madrid at age 10 and has been at the club since then. The Spanish national team player informed manager Carlo Ancelotti that he wished to end his time at the club once his contract expired. This season, he has played a bit-part role, starting only 18 matches in La Liga and a further 11 as a substitute. With Real Madrid’s high volume of defenders, Nacho’s diminished role was a sign to move away from the club.
At Al Ittihad, Nacho will have the opportunity to reunite with former Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema. With manager Marcelo Gallardo’s departure, Benzema is expected to stay, setting the stage for a potentially exciting 2023-24 Saudi Pro League season.
Nacho has attracted interest from multiple clubs, including MLS teams and La Liga’s Villareal. His decision to join Al Ittihad is a testament to the Saudi Pro League’s attractiveness to top European talent.
Should Al Ittihad secure his signature, they will be signing a versatile center-back who also plays in both full-back positions.
Nacho’s leadership qualities will also add to the team and help unite the squad as they prepare to challenge the top teams in the 2024-25 Saudi Pro League season.
