Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq Back to Winning Ways Against Damac After Stumbling Against League Leaders Al Hilal
Steven Gerrard was a happy man on Saturday when his men managed a 2-0 win over Damac. Damac played with a man down after goalkeeper Moustapha Zeghba got sent off for handling the ball outside the box in the 23rd minute. Al Ettifaq capitalized on their numbers advantage and scored twice in the first half to seal the win.
In the 15th minute, a Karl Toko Ekambi cross, poorly dealt with by Noor Al Rashidi, found Demarai Gray, who slotted it in for the first goal. It was Gray’s fourth goal of the season and his third in four games. The Jamaican international will hope to keep the scoring going and help his team improve their form.
Damac’s goalkeeper, Moustapha Zeghba, forgot himself when he handled the ball outside the box, and after a VAR review, he was sent off. Damac had to change their game plan, losing one player and not mustering enough energy to test Al Ettifaq’s defense.
Once again Demarai Gray was the center of action when he drew a challenge in the box and won a penalty. Moussa Dembele stepped up and made no mistake scoring for the first time in five months. With the win, Al Ettifaq is now level on points with Damac Al Fateh with 31 points albeit with an inferior goal difference.
