Pitso Mosimane Showing Signs That He’s Up To The Task of Saving Abha From Relegation

Abha’s New Coach Pitso Mosimane Showing Early Signs of Success

On his return to Saudi Arabia, Pitso Mosimane might be just what Abha needs to survive the drop come the end of the season. Since his appointment in January, the South African has shown signs that he’s up to the task, even though Abha has yet to register a win.

Abha lined up against Al Taawoun in their first match and managed a 1-1 draw. Al Taawoun is currently in 4th place, fighting for qualification for the AFC Champions League. However, on the day they found the home team playing gritty football that denied them all three points. Both teams’ goals were scored in extra time, with Abha going first in the 93rd minute, only for Al Taawoun to equalize 3 minutes later.

In Mosimane’s second match in charge, Abha was away to 10th-placed Al Fayha. The visitors controlled the game with an impressive 66% possession with a passing accuracy of 83%. They played with aggression, drawing 15 fouls in the game. Abha narrowly lost 3-2. However, the fundamentals were visible, and Abha is a side improving their form.

Mosimane’s signing looks like the chef’s kiss Abha needs to stay up in the Saudi Pro League. Among his list of achievements are the five titles he guided Mamelodi Sundowns in seven seasons of the South African League. He has the Midas touch, evidenced in his work at Al Ahli, whom he led back to the Saudi Pro League within one season.
